Twenty six ships laden with petroleum products, food items
and other goods are expected to arrive Apapa and Tin-Can Island ports in Lagos
from Monday, October 31 to Wednesday November 23.
This was made known by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)
via its publication – Shipping Position.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), NPA said that
the expected ships contained buck wheat, bulk sugar, general cargoes, empty
containers, base oil, aviation fuel, ethanol, base oil, diesel, containers and
petrol. Also, four ships had already arrived the ports, waiting to berth with
bulk fertiliser, bulk sugar and petrol.
15 other ships are at the ports discharging general cargoes,
bulk wheat, containers, empty containers, bulk gypsum, clinker and petrol.
Nigeria operates mostly an import-dependent economy, which
makes the Lagos ports the busiest in sub-saharan Africa.
On a monthly basis, ships from across the world berth at the
Lagos ports carrying goods which flood Nigerian markets making it difficult for
locally produced goods to gain traction in the economy.
